Using the Orion's Run Screen
Getting Familiar with the Run Screen
Welder Interface
Microscope/Darkening Lens Connected Icon: ![]()
The Orion detects when the microscope or darkening lens is attached or removed and displays the appropriate icon on the screen.
Setting Locked Icon:
The user has the ability to “lock” their custom settings from changes, inadvertent overwriting, or accidental deletion. When a setting has been locked in the Main Menu, this lock icon is displayed on the Run Screen.
Gas Connected Icon:
The Orion detects when a pressurized gas line is connected to the rear panel and will display the gas connected icon.
Run/Stop Indicator:
This indicates whether the Orion is in Run Mode or Stop Mode. In Run Mode the Orion will respond to trigger inputs and initiate a weld. In Stop Mode the Orion will NOT weld, even if triggered inadvertently. If the user attempts to weld in Stop Mode, a short beep will sound indicating that it cannot weld in Stop Mode. When changing electrodes, repositioning workpieces, or leaving the work area, it is recommended that the welder be put in Stop Mode. This is done by briefly pressing the Run/Stop Button.
The Orion has a built in Safety Lockout Timer that can automatically put the welder into Stop Mode.
The Orion is initially powered on into Stop Mode, and must manually be switched to Run Mode.
Setting's Name:
This displays the currently loaded setting's name. The default setting is called “ScratchPad” and cannot be deleted or locked. Custom settings can be created and named by choosing “Save As...” in the Main Menu.
Setting's Energy:
This displays the current setting's weld energy in Watt-seconds (Ws : 1 Ws = 1 Joule). It can be changed by selecting the power meter bar and turning the adjust knob.
Setting's Weld Time:
This displays the current setting's weld time in milliseconds (ms). It can be changed by selecting the length meter bar and turning the adjust knob.
Current Gas Flow Rate:
In PulseArc Mode or Micro Mode, this displays the approximate gas flow rate in liters per minute (lpm). In Tack Mode it displays “N/A” because gas is not used for Tack welds. When there is no pressure in the gas line, this will read “Off.”
Setting's Trigger Mode:
This displays which trigger mode is currently being used. Auto trigger will initiate a weld whenever contact is made between the + and – terminals, for instance when the stylus' electrode touches a gold ring that is connected to the + terminal through an alligator clip attachment. Foot trigger initiates a weld whenever the foot pedal is depressed. When the foot pedal is depressed in PulseArc Mode or Micro Mode and there is no contact between the + and – terminals, the welder will ABORT the weld.
The trigger can be changed by either holding the Run/Stop Button down for more than one second, or by entering:
Main Menu-->Advanced Options-->Trigger Mode
Setting's Weld Mode:
This displays the current setting's mode. The three weld modes are:
- PulseArc Mode
- Micro Mode
- Tack Mode
Selection Box:
The selection box indicates which meter bar is adjustable by the adjust wheel. Briefly pressing the Select Button toggles the box between the two meter bars.
Length Meter Bar:
The Length Meter Bar gives a visual indication of the current weld time. The bar is adjustable in 10% increments with the actual time being displayed in the setting box.
Power Meter Bar: The Power Meter Bar gives a visual indication of the current weld power. The adjustable increments default to 10% but can be changed by entering:
Main Menu-->Advanced Options-->Power Adjustment Steps
The actual energy is displayed in the setting box.
