Using the Orion to Save, Load, and Lock Settings

Save a Setting

The Save As... function in the menu allows the current weld parameters (power, length, weld mode, and trigger mode) to be saved into a custom setting with a user friendly name. Upon selecting Save As... from the Main Menu, the Save As... dialog below appears. (NOTE: When no saved settings exist, the Orion automatically chooses New Setting and advances to that screen instead).

If New Setting is chosen and the maximum number of custom settings has not yet been reached, the following dialog appears:

Tutorial: Entername

Each custom setting can have up to a 10 character name. This name is entered in one character at a time. Use the Adjust Wheel to change the current character, and Select Button to move to the next character position. At any time the Run/Stop Button can be used to cancel the save. When the final desired character has been displayed with the Adjust Wheel, briefly the Menu Button to make the save. A message will appear when the save is completed:

If “Existing Setting” is chosen and saved custom settings do exist, the Existing Setting dialog appears. An example is given below:

Tutorial: Existing

Use the adjust wheel to scroll down to the desired setting and briefly press the Select Button. Press the Menu Button or Run/Stop Button to cancel the save. When saving to an existing setting, be aware that all previously saved weld parameters for that setting will be lost. Only the weld parameters currently set on the Run Screen will be saved. (NOTE: Locked settings will not even appear in the list of settings to save over. To save over a locked setting, that setting must first be loaded and then unlocked in the Main Menu.) A message will appear when the save is completed:

Load a Saved Setting

Once custom settings have been saved, they can quickly be recalled directly from the Run Screen. Press and hold the Select Button for one second to bring up the Load Setting Dialog. The first five custom settings are displayed. Using the adjust wheel, scroll to the setting you wish to load and briefly press the Select Button. Additional saved settings are accessed by continuing to scroll down in the Load Setting Dialog. To cancel a load operation, press the Menu Button or Run/Stop Button.

Lock a Setting

Locking a setting guarantees that none of its weld parameters can be overwritten or changed. When a loaded setting is locked, a small lock icon will appear on the Run Screen, and the Main Menu will have an item labeled “Unlock This Setting.” The ScratchPad setting cannot be locked because of its temporary nature.

To lock a setting, make sure it is currently loaded and on the Run Screen. Then select Lock This Setting from the Main Menu. Repeat this to unlock a locked setting. One of the following messages will appear:

Delete a Setting

When a saved setting is no longer desired, it can be deleted to free up memory space. This is done by loading the setting to be deleted onto the Run Screen and then selecting “Delete This Setting” from the Main Menu. (NOTE: The ScratchPad and any locked settings cannot be deleted. To delete a locked setting it must first be unlocked from the Main Menu.) The Delete dialog will appear, and an example is shown below:

Tutorial: Delete

Press the Select Button to confirm, or press the Menu Button or Run/Stop Button to cancel. When a setting is deleted successfully, a message will be displayed and the active setting will be set to ScratchPad on the Run Screen:
