Need tips and tricks for welding eyeglass frames

Postby pmoshe2010 on Fri Apr 30, 2010 8:41 am

Just wanted to touch base with the Orion Welder users that weld eyeglass frames. I could use some tips and tricks from those who have welded metal eyeglass frames. At this point out of 6 different frames that I have welded I have had a little over 50% success. Most of the customers that I have repaired the frames for when asked what kind of metal the frames are made of state....."not sure" or "I don't know". I am hoping that there will be a universal way of dealing with the metal frames that are out there. Any and all comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks and have a great day,

Now that I have completely read the books I have found the best thing for eyeglasses is micro weld, thoroughly clean the area to be welded, use a new or very clean and sharp tip and flux.....I think flux may be the actual answer. I have found much more solid welds and easier pushing of the solder using flux......give it a try and let me know!!!! Oh yeah I use the "eyeglass" wire or "silver" wire (from Stuller) only for the eyeglass frames nothing else.

usually the eyeglasses that i repaired is made from nickel, stainless steel and titanium. sometimes you"ll know it written on the side temple part of the eyeglasses. through experience and practice you surely know what type of metal the eyeglasses are made of. i agree with you that silver wire is good in welding or joining the broken parts of the eyeglass.
